How P11D reporting works

Every time you provide an employee with a taxable benefit like a company car, private medical insurance, or an interest-free loan, HMRC needs to know about it. P11D forms are how you report those benefits each year, and they need to be filed online by 6 July following the end of the tax year. Miss that deadline and you'll face penalties of £100 per 50 employees for every month you're late.

We track your benefits throughout the year, calculate their cash equivalent values, and file your P11D and P11D(b) forms on time. You'll also need to provide copies to your employees so they can complete their Self Assessment returns, and we'll sort that too.

What counts as a taxable benefit?
Common taxable benefits include company cars, fuel for private use, private medical insurance, gym memberships, low-interest or interest-free loans over £10,000, and living accommodation. Cash bonuses and salary are taxed through payroll, not P11D.
When do P11D forms need to be filed?
You must file P11D forms online by 6 July following the end of the tax year (5 April). The P11D(b) form and any Class 1A National Insurance payment are also due by this date.
What happens if I file late?
HMRC charges £100 per 50 employees for each month or part-month your P11D is late. You may also face penalties for late payment of Class 1A National Insurance, plus interest on any amounts owed.
Can I avoid P11D filing altogether?
Yes, by payrolling your benefits through PAYE. This means reporting and taxing benefits in real-time through your regular payroll, which removes the need for year-end P11D forms for most benefits. From April 2027, payrolling will be mandatory for most benefits.
How much does P11D reporting cost?
It depends on how many employees receive benefits and the complexity of those benefits. We'll give you a fixed quote once we understand your situation, so there are no surprises.
Do I need to do anything before you can start?
Just provide us with details of the benefits you've given to employees during the tax year, including dates, values, and any records like car benefit tables or loan agreements. We'll take it from there.
What's the difference between P11D and P11D(b)?
P11D is the individual form for each employee receiving benefits. P11D(b) is the summary form where you declare the total Class 1A National Insurance you owe on all those benefits. Both need to be filed by 6 July.
